Pet Battle Royale: Siamese Cat vs Cheetah Cub

January 06, 2017
Pet Battle RoyaleWhile pet battling can be a good time, sometimes it's a lot of fun to think how our favorite companions might fare in a different kind of fight. The ring is ready for another Pet Battle Royale!

Here, we present two different battle pets and then you, the WarcraftPets community, vote to determine the winner.

Old vs New
The winner of our very first Pet Battle Royale, Archduke Bobo, gained quite a bit of fame for his victory. Some pets may be a bit sore over that. They think the old cat may be getting soft, sitting in the lap of luxury like he is. They think maybe some young blood, with a flashy new model, should challenge Bobo for his crown.

Here’s the tale of the tape...

update text here
Breed: Siamese Cat
Name: Archduke Bobo
Age: 9.8 years
Height: 20 inches
Weight: 8.7 pounds
Reach: 12.9 inches
Hometown: Stormspire
Signature Move: Prowl
Favorite Food: Yak Milk

Breed: Cheetah Cub
Name: Stony Stallone
Age: 4 years
Height: 22 inches
Weight: 7.2 pounds
Reach: 14.1 inches
Hometown: North Barrens
Signature Move: Pounce
Favorite Food: Salmon

You Decide Who Wins!
So, WarcraftPets, who should win?

Their battling data is mostly the same. Stony learned pretty much everything he knows from Bobo, so their fighting style is devastatingly similar. True to Stony's observation, Bobo has added a bit of weight in the past year. The tape doesn't lie. However, Bobo's fire seems to be renewed by his young challenger, and he's been training hard.

Of course, there's always the It factor to be considered. Bobo is older, and looks it, while Stony has that cute little baby face.

Will it be Stony Stallone the Cheetah Cub, or Archduke Bobo the Siamese Cat?

Head to the poll and cast your vote

Voting ends January 14th, so don't delay in helping decide which pet takes all!

Patch 7.1.5 is Live: Four New Pets & New Shoulder Enchant

January 10, 2017
Patch 7.1.5 is live this week! There are four new pets and a new Pet Battle shoulder enchant. [source]

Four New Pets

7.1.5 introduces a new Bonus Event: Mists of Pandaria Timewalking. Two new pets will be available for purchase during this event, Infinite Hatchling and Paradox Spirit (pictured above).

Both of these pets are Bind on Pick Up and not cageable, so better save up those Timewarped Badges.

In addition to this new event, an older feature received an update and is being re-released in this patch. The Brawler's Guild is back with new challenges and rewards!

Tylarr Gronnden
Tylarr Gronnden (pictured right) is a new pet purchasable from the Brawler's Guild quartermaster. According to a Wowhead guide, this pet requires Rank 3.

With the return of this secret fight club, Clock'em is now also available again. Previously this pet required Rank 4, however it now only requires Rank 3. The price for it has jumped significantly, 500 gold up from 30 silver.

Trashy
Last but not least, the fourth newest pet is Trashy (pictured left). Mage turned fisherman, Conjurer Margoss, is now selling this lovable little critter for 50 Drowned Mana.

Margoss seems to have quite an attachment to Trashy; players can only purchase this pet if they've earned Margoss' trust and are Best Friends with him.

New Shoulder Enchant
If you're in need of more Pet Charms and other Pet Battle consumables, look no further than Boon of the Zookeeper!

Boon of the Zookeeper is a new shoulder enchant sold by Draemus, located in Breanni's shop in Dalaran (Broken Isles).

The wearer will sometimes loot Pile of Pet Goodies from defeated creatures. It can contain pet related items such as Pet Charms, bandages, and treats. It's unknown if it will also drop new or older pets.

Nether Faerie Dragon — Pet of the Month: January 2017

January 19, 2017
Nether Faerie Dragon - Pet of the Month January 2017

Whether you're looking for a Dragonkin to help complete the Dragons! portion of Family Familiar, or simply seeking a pet that's effective against most Flying opponents, this month's pet is an excellent contender. It's the Nether Faerie Dragon!

Collecting the Nether Faerie Dragon
The Nether Faerie Dragon is a wild pet that spawns in Dire Maul in Feralas. They appear in the surrounding area outside of the dungeon, not inside. Its base level is 11-12 and this pet can come in five different breeds.

Nether Faerie Dragon
Unlike some other wild pets, the Nether Faerie Dragon only spawns in a centralized location and not throughout the zone. This makes looking for the pet straight forward, but can also lead to the area being "farmed out" by players looking for a specific breed or quality.

Some methods for hunting down this translucent dragon include realm hopping, checking the area on characters on different servers/regions, or "forcing" spawns by clearing out other critters and wild pets that are not the Nether Faerie Dragon.

There are usually abundant Nether Faerie spawns in the Dire Maul area, but sometimes luck may not be on your side. While waiting for new spawns, it might be beneficial to clear out some regular mobs and creatures. Who knows? You might come across the Nether Faerie Dragon's cousin, the Sprite Darter Hatchling!

Battling with the Nether Faerie Dragon
The Nether Faerie Dragon is a versatile, if slightly fragile, battler. It deals damage in two different families. The most common moveset used includes Moonfire, a big Magic nuke with weather effect, and Arcane Blast, a scaling Magic attack. These two moves have decent synergy, and turn the Nether Faerie into a hardcore Flying killer.

Its other two offensive moves are both Flying, and both are subject to RNG. Slicing Wind uses a varying number of small hits. Cyclone is an object which may damage any of your opponents’ pets in each of the 5 turns it persists on the battlefield — but also, may not.

Nether Faerie Dragon using Life Exchange
The last two moves are mostly defensive. The first, Evanescence, dodges for one turn. The second, Life Exchange (pictured above), is a bit more difficult to describe. It equalizes health between the Nether Faerie and its opponent. This can range from very effective to harmful, depending on how hurt that opponent is.

If you need a pet to defeat a Flying pest, the Nether Faerie Dragon is your best bet for the job.

Patch 7.2 PTR: New Pets and Pet Battle Dungeon

January 21, 2017
Nameless Mystic
UPDATE: Site Director of Wowhead, @perculia, discovered another new trainer on the 7.2 PTR — Nameless Mystic (pictured right)!

This NPC can be found on the Broken Shore, and is located on the hill above the area where Drak'thul is (south-west of Deliverance Point in southern Broken Shore).

Similar to Sissix, interacting with this NPC currently does not start a Pet Battle.

The PTR is up and running with the next patch, ready for testing. 7.2 will bring us 8 new pets, possibly new trainers, and the long-awaited Pet Battle Dungeon! [source]

New Pets
Scraps
Currently there are 8 datamined pets coming in Patch 7.2. Here's a summary of what's to come:

  • 3 Death Knight-themed whelplings
  • 3 dropped pets from a new reward bag
  • 1 battle pet from the Rogue Order Hall
  • 1 pet (pictured right) from an unknown source

All 7.2 datamined pets

The new whelplings currently use Placeholder Pet Journal entries, and it's unclear where they (and the undead canine) will come from.

A Hearthstone-themed battle pet model was also datamined by Wowhead, however it does not currently appear in the PTR Pet Journal.

Stay tuned, we'll have more updates on these pets as PTR testing continues.

New Trainer?
Sissix
@Mononic1 on Twitter discovered a new possible trainer hiding in the Broken Isles in 7.2. [source]

This new trainer is named Sissix (pictured right). She's located near the eastern-most flightpath on the Broken Shore.

At the moment, interacting with her only brings up a short dialogue and does not start a Pet Battle.

We can only speculate what new challenge she has for us. Could there be more hidden trainers in the upcoming patch? We'll have to wait and see!

New Feature: Pet Battle Dungeon!
Very briefly mentioned during BlizzCon 2016, the Pet Battle Dungeon was (and still is) a highly anticipated feature. The good news is that it is currently up and ready for testing on the 7.2 PTR!

Keep in mind that this content is still undergoing testing and is subject to change. You can leave constructive feedback on the Pet Battle Dungeon on the Battle.net forums or in our dedicated forum thread.

The Pet Battle Dungeon begins with a quest in Dalaran (Broken Isles). Head to Breanni's shop and an NPC will offer you a new quest (A Call From the Caverns) if you are level 110 and have at least one level 25 battle pet.

Skull entrance outside Wailing Caverns
This quest sends you to Wailing Caverns in Northern Barrens. Find Muyani above ground, outside of the dungeon; she's located in the left eye-socket of the skull entrance (pictured above).

Muyani is concerned about a growing (pet) menace inside Wailing Caverns and would like you to investigate.

Wailing Critters scenario
The follow-up quest, Wailing Critters, sends you inside a new instanced version of the dungeon. Simply speak with her again to queue into the scenario.

There are 7 Stages in this Pet Battle Dungeon, comprised of 11 different encounters you'll need to complete. Be prepared to set aside some time for some serious Pet Battling.

All enemy pets are level 25 and have either the Elite or Boss passive. Note the opponents during Stage 1, as these 3 pet-types will be found throughout the dungeon.

Growing Ectoplasm

Detailed overview of 7.2 Pet Battle Dungeon

Opponent teams are "locked" per instance. You can speak with the NPC at the start of the dungeon to teleport out, but it will reset your progress and possibly change the second and third pets on the enemy teams.

Unlike the Celestial Tournament, you can heal and revive your pets in this version of the dungeon. But rest assured, there's a challenge waiting for those seeking it!

Completing the dungeon and turning in the quest rewards an Ultimate Battle-Training Stone. We're left with a cliffhanger for now, but hopefully this hints that future Pet Battle content will continue the story of this mysterious and ominous Shadowy Figure!

After turning in Wailing Critters, Muyani will have another quest for you. This quest will only appear if you have enough level 25 pets (possibly 15 max level pets, the same requirement as the Celestial Tournament).

Damp Pet Supplies reward bag
The next quest, Pet Battle Challenge: Wailing Caverns, is an account-wide weekly quest similar to the Celestial Tournament: NO healing or reviving in the challenge version of the scenario.

It yields a new reward bag, Damp Pet Supplies, which has a chance to drop 3 new pets.

Patch 7.2 is shaping up to be a big patch for Pet Battlers and collectors! Are you ready for a new challenge?
