After approx 3 hours of killing all the cave crabs in the area I was lucky enough to have the red n black color variant spawn. Turned up as the primary pet, it spawned on the water edge just north of the Blackwater Marina (62, 12) by the npcs inside the gate- this location is unmarked on the map for this pet. GL! this one was an annoying one to farm with it's little singular spawns.

According to the game database, red with black shell is the rarest colour (1 in 26, or 3.8%) while blue with yellow shell is of medium rarity (5 in 26, or 19.2%). The remainder are purple with teal shell (20 in 26, or 76.9%).
