They frequently show up as second or third combatants in pet battles in the Vale (there's a pack of rapidly-respawning civets near the Seat of Knowledge area that are good to check), even if you phased out the ones on the lake and waterways.  The best quality I've seen so far is uncommon, but I continue to pick on those poor civets hoping to see better.  They also work as /love targets for the new Squirrels achievement, so you can help your friends with that if they need it :)
