Not a lot of the comments I've seen mention where they are found when they spawn. You will not see any above ground, they will be in the cellars of the little ruined houses in front of the main Kara entrance(there are 2). I sat around for 20 mins waiting for Midnight, and as soon as it hit, a whole bunch of them appeared on my minimap. The nice thing was that there was only a Pally from CRZ and myself hunting for these little guys, and I'm more than certain both of us walked away with a rare.
IMO, quite the useful battle pet. His spells come in very handy(I was able to take out the little gnome in Hellfire Penn. with just him), and as Attentions mentioned, it seems he can take on a whole team or wild group sometimes, by himself! All in all a VERY nice addition to any battle team, and the nice little bonus for me is I'm yet to see another in Battles thus far :D
Found a rare quality Snowy Owl at 58, 84 in Frostwhisper Gorge at about 1pm PST, was the first I found and captured(couldn't believe my luck!), but I was partied with a friend, who was also in need of one. Found a second and third right near the entrance to Frostwhisper Gorge, right in between the Gorge and Mazthoril, by the cave on the minimap(57, 62-ish). Great way to get some extra levels for beating Grand Master Trixxy while you search!
It only took me 53 tries to get this cutie, I gave up after 52 tries, picked up the fishing daily out there, and bam! First cast!
I obtained a poor quality one today inside a tree. For those of you unable to engage in a battle due to obstruction, follow directions above regarding interactable buttons. If you get the obstruction message, do a 180 and face the opposite direction of the tree. This has worked a few times for me, with other pets as well as the Shardhorn. Should that fail, hop on your flying mount and spam the interact button while you fly around the tree! Happy hunting!
