Found 2 of these guy up at 6:21 AM server time. 1 poor and 1 uncommon. One was in the cave in Southwest Zangarra and the other was up near the mage tower.

I discovered an effective strategy for finding an Unborn Val'kyr! Please try this!

1. Park 3 toons at all 3 spawn points in the same zone. I parked mine in Borean Tundra. You can also recruit 2 friends to help if you're worried about someone grabbing it while you switch between toons.

2. On the exact hour, check all 3 spawn points. There should be a Val'kyr up at one of those points.

My finding is that, presumably, they pop once per hour, at 1 point per zone.

These were hotfixed on 12.11.12 and they now appear to spawn constantly throughout the duration of the sandstorm. Myself and all my buddies were able to all farm rares for ourselves and there was plenty for everyone. Woot!

I caught one in the tunnel on the way down into the caverns. He has a smokey black ash-like particle effect. Definitely one of the best skins for the classic whelpling model!

This is the first wild pet I've managed to spot since the 5.1 patch. I found a couple of them located just East of Toshley's Station. He's a really cool looking little steampunk raptor and a great one to get if you don't have a high level mechanical yet!

These are pretty heavily camped during the daylight hours, but late at night I can usually find a few of them, especially in the Bael Modan area. You shouldn't need to camp a server restart to find these, though getting a rare may be difficult. I plan to use a stone on mine later.

As for the model, it's a very tall pet and it stands out a lot even without using a pet biscuit! Even though giraffes have been in game since vanilla, they look particularly detailed. Very pretty.

If you don't play the WoW TCG, you can get this little guy on eBay for $5-$10. You'll probably spend a lot more than that buying random card packs trying to get loot, so he's totally worth it. (I've lost count of how many packs of WoW TCG cards I've bought, but I've never gotten a single loot card out of any of them!)

You can also cage him to sell or gift to a friend. :)

I didn't go too far out of my way to get this pet, but I did get (and keep) the Ricket's Tickers quest item in my bags until I got to kill Jadefang. I'd check each day while doing my Therazane dailies and eventually one night around midnight server time I went into the cave and NPCscan alerted me that Jadefang was up. I ran up to the area where the Pebble escort quest starts, jumped forward onto the white rock and blasted myself easily backwards into Jadefang's little alcove.

This is the roughest pet grind! I've put in at least 10 solid hours of farming so far. The drop rate is most definitely under 1%. If you got it quickly, consider yourself extremely lucky! This is a good farm to do if you're a skinner/miner. I've gotten dozens of stacks of ore in the process of killing foxes and I keep wishing I could skin them all so their slain mommies didn't die for naught! I've also been eating tracker snacks so that I can see the foxes as soon as they spawn from a distance.

This pet is now a rare drop from the ~level 24 mob "Ebon Whelp", which can be found in the Wetlands!
