I read all the comments here about killing Cobbleshells for hours and decided against doing so myself.  So I went off and did a nearby world quest and BOOM there it was, a poor quality H/B.  I guess I killed quite a few Cobbleshells while I was killing everything else.

 

Edit: A second showed up after another world quest.  My Scarlapod now has a friend.

Just got mine, it took my husband helping me commit genocide of cobble shells about 3 hours, but I took the poor quality and stoned it.  location.. 44, 75

....if i never have to fight another cobbleshell as long as i live, it will be too soon! and i got a gray....of the wrong breed lol. im so done though. I'll take it!

Finally found one (after Cobbleshell genocide) at 44.72/75.78, so naturally it killed itself in the fight.

 

My second one was at 41.89/73.70, and because there's sadism behind these rare hunts, the secondary Rock Martin was a natural Blue.  The fight went better this time, even if the Scarlapod was only B/B.

I killed all the level one Cobbleshell critters just below Glimmerogg, within 5 minutes one spawned for me, it was a gray but hey i'll take any pet and update it with a stone, i'm not proud :D  Basically it works the same way as killing Slabwing critters to get a Deepridger to spawn

Found a junk one at 43, 74.  There was even another rare in the set but figured this one was a harder one to find.

Beware!  If you find one of these to capture do NOT use an ability like Superbark that reduces its health to 1.  It'll usually follow with an attack that also deals damage to itself, and it dies.

Found one near Glimmerogg (as it hints in the description), /way 41.2, 74.6. I would assume this is a rare spawn of Cobbleshell.

Because their dens tend to be close to drogbar settlements, these snails are both faster and stronger than those on the surface.
