Patch 9.1 PTR: 46 New Pets, Pet Journal Cap Removed, and More

April 13, 2021
Patch 9.1 PTR - Chains of Domination
Patch 9.1 PTR opened this week, and we got our first preview of what's to come in the next major content patch, Chains of Domination. [source]

To start, there are new pets, the removal of the Pet Journal cap, and there changes to a couple of existing abilities. As this is the PTR, and we're only at the start of testing, everything is subject to change.

New Battle Pets
There are currently 46 new pets coming in Patch 9.1! Will there be more? We'll have to wait and see.

Many of the pets are still incomplete and Works In Progress, however we do know there will be new wild pets to capture from the new zone (Korthia), The Maw, and the new Mythic-only Mega-dungeon (Tazavesh, the Veiled Market). Expect some dropped pets, and there are even a few pets that will have an interesting source.

Baubleworms

A Broker in Oribos has 4 new pets for sale. One pet (pictured above, far left) has a staggering price tag of 10k Polished Pet Charms, so better start saving up!

The other three pets currently have a unique cost - grey items. It would seem this vendor is open to bartering. One of each item is required to buy all 3 of these new Baubleworms.

It's unclear if these are merely placeholder currencies, or if we'll truly be hunting for "junk" items to trade in. Game Developer Jeremy Feasel (aka: @Muffinus on Twitter) recently requested a list of players' favorite poor, common, or uncommon quality items in WoW, but that couldn't mean anything...could it?

Patch 9.1 PTR - 46 New Pets

Check out the full list of upcoming battle pets. We'll keep this list updated as more information is added to the PTR.

Pet Journal Cap Removed
Pet Journal feeling full? Stressed about having to hold off on collecting until the next journal increase? Good news, everybody!

Pet Journal cap removed in 9.1
In Patch 9.1 the Pet Journal cap will be removed. Collect as many or as few battle pets as you please! Note that there will still be a maximum of 3 duplicates per non-unique pet.

This is wonderful news for many collectors and battlers alike. Different colors, sizes, and breeds? "Gotta catch them all!" We're one step closer to realizing that statement.

Both items that previously increased the Pet Journal size will also become nonfunctional (removed), as they won't be necessary anymore. Our recommendation is to hold off on purchasing these items if you haven't already (save those Polished Pet Charms for that 10k pet), unless your Pet Journal is bursting at the seams and cannot hold out until Patch 9.1.

Ability Adjustments
Two pet abilities will be changed in 9.1, Explosive Brew and Sticky Grenade.

The updated tooltip removes the "This damage cannot be dodged, blocked, or avoided." portion, and the damage of each ability has been increased.

We're only at the beginning of the PTR, so it's possible there will be more changes in the future. Stay tuned for updates and previews of pets and Pet Battle content coming in Patch 9.1.

Charity Pet Program: Support Doctors Without Borders

April 22, 2021
UPDATE: As of April 22, 2021 we've reached the second donation goal of $1 million USD! Congratulations, everyone!

Daisy the sloth should be available for everyone to claim starting 23 April. We'll add this pet to our database as soon as we can.

UPDATE: As of March 24, 2021 we've reached the first donation goal of $500k USD!

Players can claim Bananas from the Blizzard Store (US)(EU) for free up until August 1, 2021. Those that already own Bananas will receive a second one.

The official announcement for Blizzard's Charity Pet Program was recently released. Support Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), an independent international medical humanitarian organization, and help unlock not one but two battle pets for everyone! [source]

Charity Pets: Daisy the sloth and Bananas
Details for the Charity Pet program are now available. Donate any amount to Doctors Without Borders between now and April 26, 2021, and help reach the following donation goals to unlock Bananas and Daisy the Sloth for everyone. All donations go directly to Doctors Without Borders.

  • Bananas goal: $500,000 USD
  • Daisy the Sloth goal: $1 million USD

Donate to Doctors Without Borders

Once respective donation goals are met, Bananas and Daisy will be claimable through August 1, 2021, regardless if you donated or not.

$1 million USD to unlock a new battle pet may seem like a lot, however almost all charity battle pets have raised over a million for good causes.

But if there's still some concern about meeting Daisy's donation goal, don't worry! Collectors will still be able to add this battle pet to their collection post-donation period, whether or not the $1 million donation goal has been met. According to the official post:

"Daisy will remain available for purchase in the Blizzard Shop or from the in-game shop August 2, 2021."

We can't wait to add Daisy to our collections. We'll update the WarcraftPets database with details on this pet once it becomes available.

COVID-19 Crisis Fund
Doctors Without Borders has created the COVID-19 Crisis Fund which will help provide aid in more than 70 countries to support those in dire need of relief from the effects of the pandemic.

Learn more about Doctors Without Borders' COVID-19 Crisis Fund, and donate or keep track of the donation goal progress on the Doctors Without Borders Donation Drive page.

Let's come together and help support Doctors Without Borders and their efforts to address the recent COVID-19 pandemic.

Patch 9.1 PTR: New Daily Pet Battle

April 28, 2021
Along with over 40 new pets, a new trainer is also coming in Patch 9.1.

This "Carefree Pet Tamer" is a pet trainer located off the beaten path, similar to Crysa and Environeer Bert. She offers an account-wide daily quest, Temple Throwdown.

Anthea pet trainer
Anthea (pictured right) can be found at the Temple of the White Tiger in Kun-Lai Summit (south of the "W" on the map, across the bridge) in Patch 9.1.

Her parents left her in the temple's care while they went to defend the Shrines in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, or so she claims. Anthea's only real concern seems to be pet battling though, so bring your best team because she's ready for a match.

The encounter consists of all level 25 epic quality pets.

Completing Anthea's daily rewards a Grummlepouch, which has a chance to drop one of the pets on her team — Squibbles! This pet currently uses the same model as Feathers.

Now if only we could convince her to let us adopt Churro, a pup that uses a previously datamined Golden Retriever model.
