Fiendish Imp — Pet of the Month: October 2016

October 28, 2016
Fiendish Imp - Pet of the Month October 2016

We're returning to Karazhan to fend off the Burning Legion in 7.1, but pet collectors have been clearing out the Legion's presence from Medivh's old home for years.

We've already covered the Netherspace Abyssal, but there's another would-be Legion-loyalist from the original raid that's worth noting — it's the Fiendish Imp!

Collecting the Fiendish Imp
Fiendish Imp
The Fiendish Imp is a battle pet that drops from Terestian Illhoof, an optional boss in the Karazhan raid zone (not to be confused with the 5-man Mythic dungeon version new to Patch 7.1).

To reach Illhoof, you'll need to defeat the following bosses:

After defeating Curator, head past his room into the library section. Take the ramp up on the opposite side of the library. Continue following the ramps up. There will be a couple of rooms with hostile mobs, but keep your eye out for a secret passageway!

Once you reach a room filled with both imps and orcs head over to the bookshelves. Hidden there is a doorway that grants access to a long corridor that leads down into Illhoof's room.

Originally this encounter was quite challenging. Illhoof's fight involved controlling hostile imps that he summons (including a named imp, Kil'Rek), rescuing party members that become incapacitated, and healing/surviving various sources of damage.

Max level players should have no problem defeating this boss. Players sub-level 70 will want to bring a friend or two to help and make the run faster.

The Fiendish Imp is not a guaranteed drop from Illhoof, so it may require a few raid clears and attempts before acquiring this pet. It can be caged so it may also be found on the Aucution House.

Collecting it will add to a player's progress in the Raiding with Leashes II: Attunement Edition achievement.

Pet collectors couldn't stave off the Legion, but can't say we didn't try. The Fiendish Imp is a fun consolation prize for our efforts. Let's just hope it doesn't get any ideas and attempts to return to its original fel-masters.

Battling with the Fiendish Imp
The Fiendish Imp is a versatile pet with a lot of flashy bells and whistles in its kit.

Despite being a Humanoid, it only has one Humanoid move in its kit, the infrequently used Rush. Most of its moves are Elemental. Burn is a straightforward DPS move. Flamethrower deals DPS and includes a small DoT.

Immolation is where the flash starts, as a very long sort-of DoT. The Imp deals a small amount of damage to the frontline opponent for 9 turns, as long as the Imp remains alive, even if the Imp is in the back row. It takes a bit to explain, but it mostly just functions like a DoT spell.

The last 2 moves in the Fiendish Imp’s kit are both Magic, but one deals no damage. Sear Magic removes all buffs and debuffs from the Imp. Since it and Immolation don’t share a slot, you need to be careful to not use both.

Fiendish Imp using Nether Gate
The last move, Nether Gate (example pictured above), does deal a little magic damage, but its main function is utility, shoving your opponent’s current active pet to the back line and dragging a different one to the front, granting control over the fight.

Of course, a Nether Gate will probably also be instrumental in Returning the Legion to Karazhan, but I don’t think anyone will suspect the person in the back with a Safari Hat. It’ll probably be fine.

It's already been a long day for me I guess. I read this as Friendship Imp at first. Super confused for a moment.
